BackgroundPodcast Promo Rumble has been an annual Max Wrestling Podcast special event held in January since 2016. It is one of Max Wrestling's original five events and is held to coincide with WWE's Royal Rumble. It was the first Max Wrestling event to be renamed following the 2015 series of Podcast Promo Takeover events, and is the only event on schedule to retain the "Podcast Promo" part of the title.
A Champion traditionally selects their own challenger for this event. In 2021, the Max World Championship was defended for the first time at Podcast Promo Rumble 6. As per the tradition, all singles champions were put to a vote at The Maxies Awards, with the winner of the vote being the one that could choose their own challenger. As Cypher won the vote, he elected to defend his title against THREE challengers, choosing Beer, Chad Malcolm and Tedd P Dinero. Following the swerve of Travis Anderson's return as he replaced The Phoenix against Beer in a promo exhibition at Christmas Clash, Beer again issued a challenge to Phoenix. This time it would be TV Rules, rather than an exhibition, with the winner receiving a Knowledge Championship match at PromoMania IX. Following Anderson's return and shock move to join Dragon Club, The Phoenix did not shy away from his doubts in Anderson's loyalty, given their history. In an attempt to prove Anderson would fight fairly, Phoenix suggested Anderson should challange The Captain for the Television Championship at Podcast Promo Rumble. After defeating Daniel Crimmins for the Knowledge Championship at Promo Series 8: Chaos Theory, The Captain admitted to feeling guilty that Tedd P Dinero had drew with Crimmins in the first round of the gauntlet, and therefore deserved another shot at the title. The Captain elected that Dinero was the number one contender, and would challenge whoever the champion would be at Podcast Promo Rumble 9. The Captain retained the title in a rematch with Crimmins at Christmas Clash. Matches
