As we near the end of the 2021 King Of The Mic tournament, the stakes have been raised for the much anticipated final. Both former Promo Champions, The Phoenix and Travis "The Walker" Anderson have made it to the end. Both men's original opponents in the first round dropped out and while Travis defeated his new opponent in a cinematic "Madhouse Match", The Phoenix was met by surprise opponent, The Captain himself. Though The Captain won the vote, his motives were not to win the tournament so allowed Phoenix to advance anyway. In the semi-finals, Travis picked up some long-awaited redemption by defeating one of the favourites, The Demoness. The Phoenix also gained some revenge by defeating Chris Durham.
Now as both have their eyes fixed on the King Of The Mic crown, Travis sent his "lawyer" Chad Malcolm with a message attached to the semi-final bout between Phoenix and Durham. The message contained a challenge to the eventual winner to add extra stipulations for the impending final. After advancing, The Phoenix agreed to put his Max Wrestling World Championship on the line, while Travis will be banned from all tournaments and Championship competition for one year if he loses.
With so much at stake, this has quickly become a must-see promo battle. Due to the match already being a tournament final, it will also be decided via public vote as opposed to the usual way of determining World title promo bouts via Max Elite decision. In addition, the queue has already began forming for the World Championship. Chad Malcolm himself will be challenging the winner in a trivia battle for the World Championship at PromoSlam 2021, while Daniel Crimmins will be the next challenger on the opening day of this year's PromoBowl on September 2nd - two weeks after PromoSlam. Following that, Moses Marquez has issued a challenge for the eventual World Champion at Promo Series 6: Justice Day on November 18th, and Mike Larkin has also expressed future interest in another shot at the title. One of the three PromoBowl winners will also be awarded a briefcase for a future World Title match.
The 2021 King Of The Mic final takes place this coming Thursday, August 12th on the Max Wrestling Podcast. You can catch up with the tournament so far here.
