PromoMania VII (2022)PromoMania VII was the thirty-seventh Max Wrestling Podcast special, and seventh under the PromoMania chronology. It was hosted by "The Captain" Dazzy Dangerously and featured Moses Marquez plus special guests including Chad Malcolm, Cypher, Daniel Crimmins, Kinny Killa, The Phoenix and Travis "The Walker" Anderson.
This event will take place on the week of WrestleMania 38, and was the first PromoMania of the all-video era. Due to the placement of WrestleMania, this event also falls one day after The Captain's unborn daughter's due date - though she was born six days prior. The Promo League returns after this event, with a new format featuring exhibitions only. PRODUCTION
The event was recorded in segments and produced by Dazzy Dangerously. Travis Anderson served as special guest question master for The Phoenix. The Cinematic Sequel was filmed on location at the abandoned Ordnance Factory in Wrexham. background
At Podcast Promo Rumble 7, Chad Malcolm surrendered the World Championship to The Phoenix in exchange for the Iron Bank briefcase and the choice of Phoenix's first challenger. The Captain then attacked Phoenix from behind and signed the contract before pointing to the PromoMania sign. The following week on the February 3rd episode, The Captain explained his actions, pointing out that he had been foreshadowing his unfinished business with The Phoenix for most of 2020, before announcing the match would be a "Cinematic Sequel". On the February 3rd episode, The Captain also announced he would not make Phoenix defend the Television Championship at PromoMania, instead there would be a mini Ring Of Games to determine the number one contender. Also on the February 3rd episode, Aleksandr Rowen hacked into the show to announce Travis Anderson will be at PromoMania and his opponent knows who he is. The following week, when the mystery opponent refused to answer the challenge, Rowen appeared again and named him as Chad Malcolm. Moses Marquez also issued an open challenge to a promo exhibition on February 3rd. In the closing weeks, Beer, Crimmins and Killa were all announced to be making their returns. event
Due to the arrival of The Captain's daughter, much of this show was recorded well in advance. As a result, The Captain decided the produce the show unlike any before - where he hosted the event as a segment show and spoke to the camera between each on to introduce the next segment. The Pre-Launch Show consisted mainly of only the Iron Bank Challenge where Daniel Crimmins won his first major accolade (having previously won the Predictions Title and Group MVP), defeating Marquez and Anderson after five rounds. On the main show, the Ring Of Games was shortened to five rounds in order to fit into a main show - it has previously taken up an entire Pre-Launch Show with ten rounds. Beer made his return to Max Wrestling for the first time since 2017 - and his first trivia appearance since he made it to the final of the inaugural Knowledge Championship against Kinny Killa at Trivia Takeover in 2016. Beer also served on the prediction panel. The Contract Negotiation between "The Lawyer" Chad Malcolm and his client, Travis Anderson was mediated by Moses Marquez. As negotiations broke down, Anderson's home was invaded by Malcolm's new client, Cypher, who then signed the contract himself before Malcolm fired Anderson. Killa and The Phoenix had crossed paths many times, but never one on one before this event. After The Captain served as question master for Kinny Killa, Travis Anderson made his questioning debut for The Phoenix due to the rivalry between the two cousins. Phoenix was able to retain the title due to the match ending in a draw. Marquez's open challenge was not answered in time to make the show. Though a section of the show was prepared to fit the match in, a message aired, declaring the match would indeed air after the show. In the main event, a follow-up to the previous year's cinematic match between The Phoenix and "The Shape", The Captain and Chad Malcolm discussed their options prior to the encounter. Phoenix then took Malcolm hostage, goading The Captain to meet him in "his domain." The battle then took place at an abandoned munitions factory on location, involving both drawing blood from each other with heavy back and forth attacks. Finally, The Captain threw a fireball in Phoenix's face, before hitting him with a superkick - parodying Shawn Michaels and Ric Flair's famous WrestleMania moment. Malcolm then counted the pinfall, declaring The Captain the winner and new World Champion. Moments after, Malcolm cashed in the 2021 Iron Bank briefcase, smashing Phoenix in the head with it and pinning the already fallen champion. The Captain then pointed out that Malcolm never announced WHICH title he was cashing in on, and declared Malcolm the new Television Champion. The two new champions then drove off as The Captain narrated the scene in an homage to The Batman. Matches
